Promoting Disability-Inclusive Education Through Teacher Training
Med Matrix Services successfully completed disability-inclusive teacher training for 533 teachers across five districts in two provinces of Pakistan, covering Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang, and Chiniot in Punjab, and Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The training was conducted under the school-based screening and assistive devices initiative, with the aim of strengthening teachers’ capacity to identify children who may have disabilities or functional difficulties and facilitate their referral for further assessment.
The training focused on initial disability screening, classroom observation, early identification, and referral procedures. Teachers were equipped with practical knowledge to recognize potential difficulties related to vision, hearing, mobility, and other functional areas that may affect children’s participation in classroom activities and learning.
Through classroom-based observations and simple screening approaches, teachers learned to identify children who may require further assessment by qualified specialists. The training also emphasized the importance of appropriate documentation, coordination with project screening teams, and engaging parents and caregivers in the referral process.
By strengthening teachers’ skills and awareness, the initiative aims to promote early identification, improve access to appropriate assessment and assistive devices, and support more inclusive learning environments for children. The approach recognizes the important role teachers play in identifying learning barriers and ensuring that children who need additional support are not overlooked.
This achievement represents an important step toward more inclusive education, equitable learning opportunities, and improved participation for children with disabilities and functional difficulties. Med Matrix Services appreciates the dedication of all 533 participating teachers, project teams, education stakeholders, and partners who contributed to the successful completion of this milestone across the five districts.
